The County Seat and the "Mighty M"
As the county seat, Monticello is home to Sullivan County's government offices, and it's long been a hub for the surrounding Catskills communities. In 1958, Monticello Raceway opened to draw visitors to the area's resorts. The half-mile harness track, nicknamed the "Mighty M," still runs races today.
Resorts World Catskills, just outside the village, has made the area a destination again.
