Home of Hambletonian
Chester has an unusual claim to fame: it's the resting place of Hambletonian 10, the 19th-century stallion foaled in nearby Sugar Loaf and credited as the foundation sire of today's harness-racing horses. A granite monument marks his grave on Hambletonian Avenue, just off Route 94 in the village.
Sugar Loaf has its own character. Its art and craft village traces its roots to the 1740s, when craftspeople set up shop along the old King's Highway, and it's still lined with studios and small shops today.
