Sullivan County's First County Seat
Bloomingburg was incorporated in 1833 and served as the first county seat of Sullivan County. Its Main Street follows the original route of Route 17. When the Quickway was built, the highway was moved to bypass the village to the north.
That history leaves Bloomingburg with a compact village center and older homes close to the street, surrounded by more spread-out properties in the rest of Mamakating.
